Hello, I'm Iain.
Helping children develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed has been at the heart of my teaching career. Over the past 20 years, including 15 years teaching in Year 6, I've supported hundreds of children as they progressed to the next stage of their education.
Alongside my classroom teaching, I've spent the past five years specialising in 11+ tuition, helping children prepare for the demands of selective and independent school entrance exams.
My aim isn't only to tutor children for an entrance exam, but to also help them become independent learners who are ready to thrive in secondary school.
My Teaching Approach
Understanding How Each Child Learns
Every child has different strengths, weaknesses and learning needs. I adapt my teaching to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.
Building Confidence
Confidence is an important part of 11+ preparation. I work to identify gaps, tackle misconceptions and help children recognise their own progress.
Knowing Why, Not Just How
I focus on genuine understanding of the strategies and methods rather than simply working through practice papers. Children need to understand the concepts behind the questions so that they can apply their knowledge confidently in a wide range of situations.
What Parents Can Expect
A calm and supportive environment
Children learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and tackling challenging areas without feeling under pressure.
Lessons that are well prepared and purposeful
I plan each lesson carefully around what your child needs to work on, while adapting the pace and approach when something needs more time or a different explanation.
A clear and consistent approach
I aim to provide structure and consistency throughout a child's preparation, whilst also allowing their progress and changing requirements to guide what we focus on.
